About Spencer Valley School
For more than 150 years, Spencer Valley School has been a place where children are known, valued, and inspired to reach their full potential. Since opening our doors in 1876, we have remained committed to providing a personalized education rooted in strong relationships, academic excellence, and a deep connection to our community.
Located in the beautiful Wynola Valley at the base of Volcan Mountain, just outside the historic town of Julian in northeast San Diego County, Spencer Valley is a small, rural Transitional Kindergarten through 8th Grade school district serving approximately 30–50 students each year. Our multi-age classrooms foster leadership, collaboration, and individualized learning, allowing every student to receive the attention and support they deserve.
While our history is rich, our vision is firmly focused on the future. Spencer Valley blends the warmth and tradition of a historic one-room schoolhouse with innovative teaching practices, modern technology, and a whole-child approach to education. In 2023, we expanded our educational journey by opening our licensed preschool program, providing high-quality early learning opportunities for children ages three and four.
